October 2023 Art Exhibition

It takes more than torrential rain to deter the people of Easingwold visiting the October EDAS 2023 Art Fair which realised more than 600 visitors. The weekend saw local art groups, schools and the Boot Shop showcase their work alongside more than 50 individual artists.

Volunteers from the Galtres Centre pulled out all the stops to erect the art stands, tables, and seating; quickly followed by the artists clutching bags and trollies of precious paintings. The room buzzed with renewed friendships and the excitement of getting ready for the Preview Evening, held for Friends of EDAS and exhibiting artists.

The decision to extend the exhibition area upstairs proved enormously successful, with a steady stream of art lovers complimenting the airy feel and the space to appreciate the art. Volunteer artists stewarded to ensure visitors were able to access both exhibition areas. Regular attractions, the Pop-up Café, Prize Draw, Artist in Residence and Best in Show were there to be enjoyed alongside the discreet exhibition by professional Artist John Harrison of ‘Drawn in Yorkshire’ fame.

Students from Outwood once again loaned their work to the exhibition and local artist John Humphreys adjudicated to confer Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. John then gave an interesting critique at the Preview Evening. It is hoped that the venture into the art world will inspire the students to continue and become our Yorkshire artists of the future. Portraiture was the choice of the primary school pupils who adorned one wall with uncanny likenesses of their teachers, many of them receiving votes.

Best in Show went to ‘Dandelion’ by Pam Chilton, her fabulous felt painting of a Swaledale sheep.

EDAS would like to thank volunteers and visitors alike for making the exhibition a success.
